On June 22nd Child Care Now held its Annual General Meeting to elect its Board of Directors and review its report of the organization’s past activities.
Child Care Now is regarded as the leading national advocacy organization in Canada and has been especially busy the last few years doing everything possible to guide big changes in early learning and child care, particularly at the federal level. Over the past two years, Child Care Now’s Executive Director, Morna Ballantyne, served on the Expert Panel on Early Learning and Child Care Data and Research, a body appointed by the federal Minister of Children, Families and Social Development to advise on a wide-range of issues including a vision for early learning and child care. As well, she was appointed to the Government of Canada’s Task Force on Women and the Economy which provides advice on financial policies and measures to advance the social and economic security of women.
In this exciting and busy time for child care, our organization is growing, with new chapters established in Alberta, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. As the Board’s report to the Annual General Meeting states, “having strong, well organized, diverse, broad-based advocacy organizations in every province and territory will be crucial to winning good federal-provincial/territorial ELCC bilateral agreements, and to transforming ELCC in every jurisdiction”.
