On June 26, 2024, members of Child Care Now’s National ELCC Workforce Policy Table convened to explore and discuss how immigration can serve to strengthen ELCC and grow the ELCC workforce.

Foreign workers, immigrants, and international students are being actively recruited to join the ELCC sector but not enough is being done to ensure that these new entrants to the workforce are being properly compensated and supported.

The Policy Table is considering what public policy measures are required to ensure the protection of rights and the improvements in working conditions for all working in the ELCC sector, and to ensure that the quality of ELCC programs is increased and not compromised.

The Workforce Policy Table was established as part of the Educators Matter project which aims to develop policy solutions that address the retention and recruitment crisis within the ELCC workforce.
