Calling for parents and child care staff to complete survey on accessibility
A new research project led by Université Laval’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (CIRRIS) will study the accessibility challenges facing young children with disabilities in Canada’s child care services.
As Canada builds a publicly funded, high quality, affordable and inclusive early learning and child care system, it’s essential to ensure these services meet the needs of all families, including those with children with disabilities.
The project’s survey will collect insights from parents and child care staff across the country to understand their experiences with both the physical and social accessibility factors within child care settings. The survey explores key elements such as architecture, assistive technologies, inclusion policies, and funding programs, aiming to identify gaps and prioritize solutions to improve accessibility.
The survey takes 20-30 minutes to complete, and responses are confidential. Participants will also have the opportunity to enter a draw for an iPad tablet.
Eligible participants include:
- Parent of a young child with disabilities who attends a childcare service or has previously attended a childcare service (within the last 3 years).
- Parent of a young child with disabilities who is still searching for a childcare service or has been unable to find a childcare service.
- Worker in a childcare service providing or having provided services to a young child with disabilities (e.g., manager, educator, special care counsellor).
