Media Release: Morna Ballantyne appointed to Sectoral Table on the Care Economy

Morna Ballantyne, Executive Director of Child Care Now, has been appointed to the newly established Sectoral Table on the Care Economy. 

Launched by the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Jobs and Families, the Sectoral Table will provide advice on potential actions to support the care economy. The care economy “encompasses both unpaid and paid care, provides crucial care and support to all generations, including parents, grandparents, children, and many adults who live with disabilities or long-term conditions.”

The Sectoral Table is made up of twelve members with diverse perspectives and expertise in the care economy. The establishment of the Sectoral Table was one of a number of measures announced in Budget 2024, in order to address the challenges faced by the care economy.

In addition to the Sectoral Table, they included the federal government’s commitment to launch consultations on the development of a national caregiving strategy.
