New release: Policy briefs on pensions for the ELCC workforce

Following the release of the National Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Workforce Policy Table policy recommendations on wages, benefits and pensions in November 2024, and as part of Child Care Now’s Educator’s Matter project, Child Care Now has released two new policy briefs focused on pension plans.

Policy Brief: Employer Pension Plans in Canada’s Early Learning and Child Care Sector provides an overview and summary of types of employer pension plans used across Canada in the ELCC sector.

Policy Brief: Nova Scotia Pension Plan offers a snapshot of Nova Scotia’s current approach in providing early childhood educators pension plans. The brief outlines pension plan details, eligibility, examples of contributions and analysis of key issues.

About the project

Educators Matter is a three-year project by Child Care Now, dedicated to advancing collective knowledge on Canada’s early learning and child care (ELCC) workforce. The project aims to develop policy solutions that address the retention and recruitment crisis and support the implementation of a high-quality Canada-wide ELCC system.
